Bamboo Road

This sections begins with a leisurely ferry ride from Hong Kong to Macau. Perhaps after visiting one of that city’s many casinos, riders will spin out towards Kaiping.

Here they will discover a vast collection of UNESCO highlighted watchtowers. Built by ‘coolies’ returning with their fortunes from California, the styles vary from Roman to Rococo.

Cyclists will now follow the coast through the area known for the best dim sum in China to their rest day in Beihai – an enchanting town also blessed with a gorgeous beach. Riders may decide to take a boat out to Weizhou – China’s largest volcanic island.

The border crossing into Vietnam follows soon after. From there the route follows the beautiful coast before turning west past the incredible outcroppings of Ha Lomg Bay and finishing the section in beautiful and historic Hanoi.
