Indian Adventure

The Indian Adventure departs from the famous Taj Mahal in Agra, bound for the southern tip of India at Kanyakumari. Enroute we will pass through the colourful desert cities of Rajasthan; the prosperous and unique state of Gujarat; marvel at the ancient Ellora Caves; spend a day or two in the bustling metropolis of Mumbai; relax on pristine empty beaches of the Konkan Coast; visit the incredible ruins of Hampi; cycle through the undiscovered interior of Karnataka; pass through the princely city of Mysore; spin down from the heights of the Western Ghats to feast on seafood in Cochin; and bike alongside the gorgeous backwaters of Kerala.

The Experience

The 2016 Indian Adventure will depart from the famous Taj Mahal in Agra, bound for the southern tip of India at Kanyakumari. Enroute we will pass through the colourful desert cities of Rajasthan; the prosperous and unique state of Gujarat; spend a day or two in the bustling metropolis of Mumbai; relax on pristine empty beaches of the Konkan Coast; visit the incredible ruins of Hampi; cycle through the undiscovered interior of Karnataka; pass through the princely city of Mysore; spin down from the heights of the Western Ghats to feast on seafood in Cochin; and bike alongside the gorgeous backwaters of Kerala.

The Experience

Wheeling out from the Taj Mahal, in Agra, the cyclists will head west towards Rajasthan. Stopping in a bird sanctuary, resting in the legendary ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur and the holy city of Pushkar, the ‘Blue City’ of Jodhpur, discover the Royal history of the region. You might even meet a prince or a maharaja along the way! Staying in restored palaces, and forts, local hotels and guesthouses, we will have a taste of the regal lives that have lived here. Riders will enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of India’s most alluring state. we will end in Udaipur – a city known for the uber luxury Lake Palace Hotel, on Lake Pichola, this ‘City of Lakes’ is not to be missed.

The Experience

Cycling south from Udaipur we soon cross into Gujarat and one of India’s most prosperous states. With bridge, dam, and highway projects underway we stick to the village roads wherever possible to explore rural life. With its own language, dress, foods, and customs, Gujarat will feel like a new country, not just a new state. Further south we will enter Maharashtra and head for a rest day at the world-reknown Ellora Caves. We then head towards the coast and the throbbing metropolis of Mumbai. Known by many still as Bombay, it is India’s commercial and entertainment hub – with high finance and celebraties of Bollywood film industry mixed in with the 20 million other inhabitants. We will cycle to the coast and take a peaceful ferry ride into the city – avoiding the dangerous and hectic traffic altogether.

The Experience

Leaving the fascinating city of Mumbai from the Gateway of India, we will hop on a ferry across the harbour to begin our trip south along the beach studded coast of Maharashtra. The Konkan Coast is a hidden treasure, and India’s best kept cycling secret. Quiet roads, pristine, empty beaches, palm trees, little to no traffic, and coastal life at its best. After a rest day in Belgaum we continue inland away from the coast and end this section at arguably India’s most stunning ancient temple ruins – Hampi.

The Experience

Leaving Hampi, we head south. Riders will pedal through the rural villages of Karnataka, past ancient temples of the Hoysala dynasty, through the royal city of Mysore, thru lush tea plantations to Munnar before speeding down the Western Ghats to the historic seaside city of Kochi. From there it is another few days of cycling along the famous inland waterways of Kerala before we arrive at the tip of India and the finish to this spectacular expedition at Kanyakumari – a beautiful seaside village at the southernmost point of India.

Full tour entry fees will receive an early payment discount of US TBA if full payment is received 6 months before the start of the tour. Those coming for multiple sections get 10% off for 2 or more sections on the same tour (multiple section discount does not apply to full tour price). TDA alumni get special alumni discounts.
