I have a Dream…

Last night, I had a vivid dream. Normally I do not seem to recall my dreams so I have no need to try to interpret them but last night’s dream was so different that I woke up in sweat.

IMG_7281In the dream I was being chased by a dinosaur, in a striking green valley, while the mountains around me were covered with diamonds. The light being reflected by the diamonds was blinding me so I could not see where to bike in order to escape the large meat-eating Allosaurus, or was it Camarasaurus, that was closing in on me.

I do not know what to make of it. Those of you, who know my history with the elephant, could point out that I was simply having a post-traumatic reaction. Others may point out that when you cycle all day on a route that is called Dinosaur Diamond National Byway, a route that encompasses Eastern Utah and Western Colorado and you stop for a drink in a town called Dinosaur, that finally when I sleep my subconscious is simply recasting the events of the day.

In the process we have been able to see earth of every color and shape, terrain that is flat and dry as well as mountains that are green and luscious.

It is true that for the last few days, on the North American Epic, we have had the pleasure of cycling and experiencing the area where 160 million years ago dinosaurs ruled and where, for the last one hundred years or so, humans have been hunting for their bones, skulls and anything else that would give an insight into the lives of Apatosaurus, Diplodicus and Stegosaurus as well as make a dollar or two. After all, humans do need to make a living!

IMG_7262As a result, while on our bikes we have come across museums dealing with dinosaurs, interpretive centers dealing with everything from fossils to American Indian petroglyphs and pictographs otherwise known as indigenous native  rock art, directions to monuments such as the Dinosaur National Monument & landmarks pointing out places of interest such as landscape from Tertiary period (65 million years ago), late Jurassic period (150 million years ago) and Cambrian period (570 million years ago). In the process we have been able to see earth of every color and shape, terrain that is flat and dry as well as mountains that are green and luscious.

Now if I only knew what the dream meant.
